The lost art of sewing is a modern sewing education and creative workspace business dedicated to teaching sewing skills and providing a fully-equipped environment for sewing enthusiasts.

We offer beginner-to-advanced sewing lessons, specialty workshops, and studio memberships for use of sergers and a variety of sewing machines.

We serve kids, teens, adults, hobbyists and aspiring designers who want to learn, practice and bring their ideas to life in a warm, approachable setting that encourages creativity and confidence.

Meet the Team

  • Kim Rookey

    FOUNDER & LEAD INSTRUCTOR

    Kim began sewing as a child, learning advanced tailoring and dressmaking techniques. She earned dual degrees in Fashion Design (AAS, FIT in NYC) and Fashion Technology (BS, Buffalo State).​

    Kim pursued a career in Textile Design and Product Management and then established The Lost Art of Sewing in 2025.

  • Angie Solis

    VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTOR

    Angie learned how to sew in 1971 while living in Okinawa, Japan. With decades of experience, she loves sewing with her great-grandchildren and creating a variety of handmade projects for her family and friends. Angie especially likes helping Kim teach St. Paul Catholic School students in her afterschool sewing program.

  • Carolynne Fooshee

    VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTOR

    Lynne is an experienced sewing instructor with a Master’s Degree in Home Economics. Her teaching experience spans over 35 years, and she’s even has taught sewing classes with up to 45 students at once! She enjoys actively volunteering with 4-H, working with children of all ages - and has for over 40 years!

  • Kathy Lahr-David

    VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTOR

    Kathy has experience teaching sewing lessons to neighborhood children out of her home. With years of expertise, she developed her own sewing educational curriculum and materials. She lives in the neighborhood and enjoys sharing her knowledge of sewing.

  • Ali Brin

    GUEST INSTRUCTOR

    Ali is a multidisciplinary creative with over 20 years of experience as an artist, fashion designer, and stylist, known for seamlessly blending artistic vision with strategic expertise. Ali teaches the Intro to Crochet and Embroidery classes.
